It’s a lesson Abiose and Chima Gale first learned when outfitting celebrity baker Buddy Valastro’s house with an Elan g! control system more than two years ago, and one that was driven home even harder when they decked Valastro’s new cake factory in Jersey City, N.J. with an amped-up Elan control system, iPod docks, and much more in 2011.

Small integrators parlay small subcontract into landing the project of a lifetime for a celebrity client.

It’s common when starting a business to have visions of grandeur. All too often, eager entrepreneurs dive into their new endeavors expecting a rush of clientele to stampede their storefronts.
In the custom electronics installation industry, these visions of greatness typically include working in huge, custom-built houses; installing elaborate, bells-and-whistles systems; and catering to customers who willingly give them carte blanche on the project.
In reality, it usually takes years to achieve this sort of business nirvana. To expect it to happen overnight is a big, fat pipe dream. Even CE pros who have been fortunate enough to reach the big leagues have recently had to scale down their grand business plans to weather the finicky economy.

If you watch the TLC show The Cake Boss, you know how they do it in Hoboken. But at home, the Boss Buddy Valastro wants to relax a bit and let his home control system do some of the work for him.
Valastro recently had a ELAN g! home control system installed by 360 Media Innovations. The ELAN system, which cost about $97,000, integrates many of the home’s subsystems, including audio/video entertainment, lighting, security and climate. Through a variety of interface devices, including Buddy’s numerous iPads and wall-mounted touchpanels, the family can access whole house music, check the security system, control lights and even view family photos from a central server.
